The Vision and History Behind the Middle Georgia Innovation Corridor
Across Middle Georgia, innovation is already in motion – in classrooms and boardrooms, on farms and factory floors, in logistics hubs and health care centers. From Fort Valley to Milledgeville, Hawkinsville to Macon-Bibb, our 11-county region is building on local strengths and shared purpose to unlock what’s next.
The Middle Georgia Innovation Corridor was created to connect those efforts and advance Middle Georgia. It is a platform built by and for the people who call this region home. The Corridor links resources, fosters collaboration, and helps communities move forward together, without losing what makes each place unique.
The Corridor began with a bold idea: a more connected Middle Georgia could unlock opportunity for everyone. In 2018, with a Department of Defense planning grant, local leaders came together to chart a path that would grow and diversify the regional economy. The Project Steering and Super Working Groups included leaders from:
- 21st Century Partnership
- 78th Air Base Wing, Robins AFB
- Atrium Health Navicent
- Central Georgia Technical College
- Development Authority of Houston County
- Georgia Center of Innovation
- Georgia Dept. of Economic Development
- Middle Georgia Economic Alliance
- Middle Georgia Regional Commission
- Middle Georgia State University
- Partnership for Inclusive Innovation
- The Miner Agency
Their work created the Middle Georgia Innovation Roadmap. This roadmap was shaped by input from more than 250 stakeholders, and it provided a strategy to:
- Launch the Innovation Corridor as a collaborative framework
- Fast-track Industry 4.0 adoption in strategic sectors
- Strengthen STEM and software education pipelines
- Showcase Middle Georgia’s unmatched value as a place to live, work, and invest
This early planning laid the groundwork for the Georgia AIM (Artificial Intelligence in Manufacturing) grant, a major milestone that shifted the Corridor from concept to action.
Turning Vision into Visibility
Thanks to the Georgia AIM grant, the Corridor is set to deliver real tools that help communities and partners move from idea to impact. This includes:
Middle Georgia Innovation Corridor Marketing Toolkit
- A ready-to-use suite of messaging, logos, templates, and visual assets to help partners promote their communities while amplifying a regional voice. It is built for economic developers, educators, chambers, and local leaders – and designed to help everyone tell a bold, united story about what’s possible here.

Middle Georgia Innovation Report
- This newsletter is just one way we are keeping the conversation going. Each month, we will spotlight local innovation, elevate success stories, and offer a way for stories from across the region to be heard.
The strength of the Corridor is in the people and places it connects. Its future depends on ideas, partnerships, and participation from every corner of the region. Whether you’re teaching the next generation, launching a startup, leading workforce efforts, or shaping local policy, your work is part of this story.
This is your Corridor.
Let’s move forward – together.
